THE NEED-TO-KNOWS ABOUT VOLUNTEERING

​

An application and background check must be completed before volunteering. The Volunteer Coordinator can email paperwork, or you can stop by during office hours. Volunteer Coordinator office hours are Monday 1pm-7pm, Tuesday through Thursday 9am-3pm. We cannot accept volunteers who have a violent or sexual conviction. The minimum age to volunteer is 8 years old. The minimum age to volunteer without a parent is 13 years old. Please wear modest work-appropriate clothing and close-toed shoes. Warehouse volunteers can bring a coat for working in the freezer and refrigerator. Please park on the south side of the building and enter through the south door. Please make sure to clock in and out to properly record your hours.

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS

​

• Shopping Assistant

Shopping Assistant Volunteers will call the names of the clients from the waiting area to the grocery market, explain the client choice system, and accompany the client through the grocery market, properly bag groceries as the client’s shop. When clients have completed shopping, the Shopping Assistant Volunteer will assist the client in carrying out groceries to their vehicle. Will need to be able to lift groceries and stand for long periods of time.

• Warehouse Assistant

Warehouse Assistant Volunteers will assist in rotating stock, filling shelves in the store area, and placing them in the appropriate areas of the facility, removing debris, preparing boxes and material for recycling or removal, stocking the freezer and cooler areas, and rotating the stock, sweeping, and mopping the warehouse as needed or directed. Need to be able to lift 30lbs or more and be able to stand for long periods of time.

• Receptionist

Receptionist Volunteers are to greet clients and visitors to Connections Food and Resource Center, answer the phone, assign intake numbers to clients, provide information to clients regarding eligibility for shopping at Connections, ensure clients are well informed regarding the shopping process, assist in maintaining order in the waiting area, communicate any concerns to the Connections Executive Director, and providing excellent customer service to all who visit Connections.

 

• Retail Recovery Assistant

Retail Recovery Assistant will meet a Connections staff member at Connections Food and Resource Center to pick up donations from our Retail Recovery Partners. Retail Recovery Assistant will help staff in sorting donations, stocking shelves, and organizing and cleaning the warehouse. The Retail Recovery Assistant will help clean the interior and exterior of Connections’ box truck.

4. Stop by the office on Monday 1pm-7pm, Tuesday through Thursday 9am-3pm. Our physical address is 122 S. 8th Street, Weatherford, OK. The volunteer entrance is on the south side of the building.
